Singer, Ashanti, was born on October 13, 1980 as Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas. In 2002, Ashanti released a self-titled debut album and instantly hit big time as the first female performer to have two and three songs on the Billboard Hot 100. No one other than The Beatles had previously hit three simultaneous spots on the Billboard Hot 100. The Declaration, her fourth studio album was released this summer. This year, she also sang with 14 other singers, including GOTDs Beyonce and Carrie Underwood, in the cancer research fund-raising song, Just Stand Up. She has helped raise funds and awareness for a handful of charitable organizations. Oh, and she doesn't just sing and dance; Ashanti writes poetry and songs, including songs for Christina Milan and Ja Rule.
